The 3JS just announced on RTL Boulevard that they will be performing at AFAS Live on Saturday, October 28, to celebrate their 10th anniversary in style.
This year marks exactly ten years since Jan Dulles, Jaap Kwakman, and Jaap de Witte from Volendam released their first Dutch-language single in the Netherlands. Although new to the Netherlands, they had long been known in their hometown, as the 3JS had actually been around for twenty years. The first ten years were important for their musical development. They played in many different (English-language) bands, combinations, and styles that ultimately came together in the now impressive repertoire of the 3JS.
In 2009, the 3JS took their first steps on the stage of the Dutch theater world, which proved to be the ideal territory for their Dutch-language lyrics. This allowed the band to explain the lyrics in more detail, making the deeper layers clearer. In 2010 and 2011, the 3JS played to a sold-out Heineken Music Hall. In 2012, Jaap de Witte was forced to leave the band and was succeeded by his son Jan de Witte, who in turn brought a new look and feel to the band's Dutch-language repertoire.
In 2016, during Vrienden van Amstel Live, the 3JS stepped into the shoes of the band U2. This was so enthusiastically received by the audience that they decided to create a theater show based on the U2 album The Joshua Tree, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2017. This tour became the biggest and best-attended tour they have ever done; forty sold-out shows in the largest theaters in the Netherlands, with wonderful reviews and reactions from the audience. This tapped into a completely new audience that was not previously familiar with the versatility of the likeable trio.
Many of these "new" fans will undoubtedly also attend the 10th anniversary of the 3JS. It will be celebrated in style with special guest appearances and, of course, all the musical highlights of the past ten years will be reviewed.
Tomorrow (Thursday, March 16), the 3JS will be guests on the radio program Gijs 2.0
on Radio 2 between 1:00 and 1:45 p.m.
3JS
The 3JS consists of Jan Dulles (singer), Jaap Kwakman (guitarist), and Jan de Witte (guitarist). They have an impressive track record; in ten years, they have achieved four gold albums, among other things, and all nine of their albums entered the Top 10 of the album charts.
