Jan Smit sings for the Food Bank

This afternoon, Jan performed at RTV Drenthe as part of their campaign for the food bank. The performance did not earn him any money. On the contrary, it actually cost him money because he also had to make a contribution in the form of packs of coffee.

This year, RTV Drenthe is organizing its fifth annual "Together for the Food Bank" campaign. In Drenthe, no fewer than 3,500 people depend on the food bank, and they have a particularly difficult time during the Christmas period. Together with volunteers and ambassadors, money and goods are collected throughout the province to donate to the province's four food banks.

Prior to the performance, Jan and presenter Arnold (Met Arnold Naar De Avond, weekdays from 3 to 6 p.m.) discussed Jan's busy schedule since he started his theater tour. Jan himself thinks it's not too bad: "Compared to Germany, it's not too bad because I don't leave until between 5 and 6 p.m. every day and I'm usually back in bed before midnight." However, the past three weeks have been tough due to throat problems. Jan had intermittent mucus and could only perform if he took a large amount of medication. In the end, it became too much for him: "On Friday, I was at the Ziggodome, and on Saturday, I woke up without a voice again, and I thought: Who am I kidding?"

The recently released album "Met Andere Woorden" was also discussed, and Arnold found the way it came about particularly interesting. "Edwin Evers, Barry Hay, Sanne Hans, just like that!" Jan talked about how the album was a real challenge for him, especially because he didn't write it himself.

Jan was happy to participate in the food bank campaign. "It should be a given that people don't go hungry." He donated a few packs of coffee and played "Betere Tijden," "Ik Wil Slapen," and "Als De Morgen Is Gekomen." The stream shows how he takes the time to talk to visitors between songs.
