3JS announce album ‘Mooie Tijden’ (Good Times)

After two years of radio silence, the new album by the Volendam band 3JS will be released on June 9. The title of the album is Mooie Tijden(Good Times). The band members announced this on Tuesday evening on Khalid & Sophie. Last Friday, the second single from the album, "Als Je Haar Ziet" (When You See Her), was released.

Fans have had to wait a long time for new work from 3JS, following the release of their number 1 album De Aard Van Het Beest. When asked what was still on their wish list for their next album, the gentlemen replied that they would like to work with a major international producer and mixer again. They found that person in Bob Clearmountain, who played an important role in the recording of legendary albums such as Tattoo You by The Rolling Stones, Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen, Let’s Dance by David Bowie, Reckless by Bryan Adams, and Avalon by Roxy Music. They were even invited to visit Bob Clearmountain at his home, where his famous mixing desk takes pride of place in the living room.

Good friend Lori Lieberman, the American singer who made the first recording of "Killing Me Softly With His Song" in 1972, put together the American backing band for the recordings of Mooie Tijden . It consists of some of the best musicians on the American West Coast, including Sean Hurley (Lana Del Rey, John Mayer), Victor Indrizzo (Beck, Alanis, Lizzo), David Delhomme (Marcus Miller, Eric Clapton), Greg Leisz (Bruce Springsteen, Mark Knopfler, Bon Iver), and Davey Chedwiggen (The Black Keys). With these phenomenal session musicians, fourteen new songs were recorded in eight days. Ten of them will ultimately be included on the album. The Americans described the songs of the 3JS as "Dutch Americana."

As usual for 3JS, the album title is named after a song on the record. The song "Mooie Tijden" (Good Times) is about a friend who committed suicide, but instead of focusing on that tragic event, it commemorates the good times. "Holding on to beautiful memories is the common thread running through the album," explains Jan Dulles. "It's a beautiful, positive title, but also somewhat ambiguous." The 3JS are currently performing their show 15 Years of 3JS. During this show, eight of the ten songs from Mooie Tijden are played.
