3JS talk about tours and new album

Today, 3JS were guests of Daniel Dekker on Tros Muziekcafé. They talked about their upcoming tours and... their new album! Between playing Mensen, Los van Alles, It's a Man's, Man's World, and Stairway To Heaven , Daniel asked them all about what 2019 will look like for the band.

Club Tour February 22 marks the start of the club tour in The Hague. Jaap: "It's been said before, but we're really going to do something different than in the theaters. In the theater, the atmosphere is very calm, you take your time with the songs and stories, and you stay close to how the song is meant to be. In the clubs, we're going to take a few more detours and let loose on the instruments. We can also step on the gas a bit more. All the songs we're going to play will get a new approach, and there will be a lot less mandolin—it's even staying at home."

The support band for the club tour will be reinforced by Nils Davidse (The Handsome Poets). According to the band, they were looking for "a crazy synthesizer player." "That quickly led us to Nils."

Heroes of Music
"What exactly do we want to convey with this tour? It has to have a story; we don't want to just play songs," says Dulles about the new theater concept. "We're going for a chronological narrative of the best music of the past decades." They didn't immediately choose songs, but rather bands. "By selecting in this way, we also went very deep into researching what we're going to talk about. You know everything about the band and ultimately play the song that best fits the story."

The crux also lies in matching the performances of the legendary bands. "We only realized how tough it really is in the rehearsal room. Everyone in the audience knows the songs, they know exactly how they are sung and how the solos go. So you can't just do a half-hearted job on stage. You have to go all the way, or you might as well not do it at all," says Jaap.

's new album
This is the first time the guys have talked about new music. There have been a number of successful writing sessions: "We already have three songs that we're sure will appeal to our fans," said Jaap Kwakman, "But we're not in the studio yet, it's only on paper." To complete those three songs, the band will soon be heading to their vacation home in France. Dulles: "There we can work completely isolated from the outside world, which is wonderful."
